Pest Management Professional - Location: Portage/Kalamazoo, MI


Position Purpose: Provides pest elimination and prevention services to homes and businesses.

Reports To: Service Manager

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Providing services of a technical nature to homeowners and/or businesses on a regular or as-needed basis

Knowledge: Entomology and pest remediation services

Skills: Reading and writing, listening and explaining, organizing and planning, providing service and selling, identifying and solving problems, attending to details and exercising appropriate caution, doing simple mathematics, learning new technologies and methods, building relationships with others, and working cooperatively as part of a team

Credentials: Valid drivers license that meets requirements of insurance provider plus a State of Michigan certification as a commercial applicator by the MDA in categories 7A, 7B, and 7F would be helpful.


Function & Duties


Meet with customers and potential customers to carefully inspect, diagnose, and/or verify pest-related problems.

Advise customers of facts and solutions.

Educate customers on pest prevention/elimination techniques and options, health, safety and environmental issues.

Pro-actively identify service needs for customers and potential customers beyond what may have been requested/reported by customer.

Prepare detailed graphs and diagrams of buildings and surrounding areas in need of service.

Perform a variety of pest prevention and elimination services in and around living areas including, but not limited to, interiors, exteriors, attics, crawl spaces, porches and others.

Inspect work for completeness, quality and accuracy.

Research information, when necessary, to verify pest-related problems and to identify specific solutions.

Respond to customer service calls and follow up with customers to ensure problem has been resolved satisfactorily.

Continually build relationships with customers and, at all times, promote excellent customer service, quality, integrity, and professionalism.

Attend all required meetings.

Complete required service records, customer reports, time records, or others, in accordance with company procedures and state/federal regulations.

Stay abreast of current industry trends, regulations, technical data, new products, safety standards, construction materials and equipment.

Inform management of any customer issues or concerns that are not completely resolved to the satisfaction of the customer.

Properly maintain all service equipment, including vehicles. Immediately refer any problems to management.

Clean equipment or vehicles as needed or required.

Prepare all equipment and vehicle prior to beginning of each workday.

Perform all other duties as assigned.


Physical & Mental Demands


Must be able to work with pest prevention/elimination chemical agents, traps and baits. Must be able to wear/utilize required safety equipment. Requires constant (67%-100%) walking, bending, reaching, pulling, stooping, kneeling, pushing, stretching, and mental alertness. Requires frequent (34%-66%) climbing; crawling in small, hot areas to inspect enclosed areas such as attics; and lifting up to (50) pounds. Requires occasional (0%-33%) sitting. Must possess ability to climb heights and endure high level of noise from motorized equipment. Must possess physical ability and stamina to work outdoors and perform physical labor continuously. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Ability to communicate clearly required. Must possess good hand-eye coordination, gross motor coordination and manual dexterity. Must be able to withstand heat in attics and during hot summers. Ability to operate a vehicle required.


Working Conditions


Constant contact with customers. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, with exposure to all weather elements. Work may be performed in areas with elevated temperatures, such as attics and crawl spaces. Exposure to pest prevention/elimination products, chemicals, baits and traps. Work involves continual use of industry equipment, material and products. Work involves daily travel.


Special Equipment


Must possess ability to operate pest prevention/elimination equipment including, but not limited to,traps, drills, shovels, carpenter’s tools, power tools, applicators, backpacks, truck equipment, and others.
